A Putnam County man accused of murder was given an arraignment date and served indictment papers Thursday.
Philip Casto, 34, will be arraigned on a felony charge of first-degree murder at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 for the shooting death of Jennifer Evans, 27.
The date was set by Circuit Court Judge James O. Holiday, who was filling in for Circuit Court Judge Joseph Reeder.
At his indictment, Casto said that he has retained his own lawyer, David Moye.
During an October preliminary hearing, evidence documenting the relationship between Casto and Evans was presented to Magistrate Linda Hunt.
The evidence suggested that Evans had asked Casto to no longer contact her, Putnam County Prosecutor Mark Sorsaia said.
Images from a surveillance camera captured a silver Honda Civic, similar to Casto's own vehicle, near Evans' home on the day of her death. The vehicle arrived at 4:38 p.m. and left at 4:54 p.m. In the 16-minute interval, Evans sent a text message to her husband indicating that Casto had been at the home.
Evans' body was discovered by her husband when he returned home at 5:30 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.
Casto was pursued and captured by Massachusetts police in a shopping mall in Braintree, a suburb of Boston, the day after the shooting.
He is being held without bail at Western Regional Jail.
