WINFIELD - The Putnam County Schools Board of Education received confirmation from the School Building Authority to move forward with renovations for Buffalo Elementary School.
The elementary school will receive new window replacements, ceiling tiles, lighting fixtures and a new cafeteria to bring the school up to date, according to previous reports.
The board previously had held off on renovations because of plans to consolidate the school with Leon Elementary in Mason County to form a new school, but the plans fell through.
The item officially will be on the agenda during the next board meeting on Aug. 1, Putnam Schools Superintendent John Hudson said.
"We're real excited about that project," Hudson said.
The board still has to go through with the bid process, and hopes to begin work on the school by late spring 2017.
Most of the work would be done while students aren't in school, and Hudson said he hopes the project will be complete by fall 2017.
The board also approved the purchase of six 77-passenger IC school buses from Heritage Bus Sales in the amount of $601,800.
The Putnam County Board of Education will meet again at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the central office in Winfield.
