Marshall's basketball team will be without one of its assistant coaches indefinitely after Chris Duhon's arrest for aggravated driving under the influence in Putnam County.

Duhon was booked into the Western Regional Jail at 4:15 a.m. Monday, and was later released on a recognizance bond. About six hours ago, the MU athletic department announced he is suspended "due to a violation of department rules and policies."

There was no further comment.

According to the court complaint, Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to a call in the Cedar Hills subdivision in Eleanor and found Duhon asleep in the driver's seat of a Ford Escape on Limestone Street. The report by Deputy William Seanze said the key was in the ignition and engine was running.

The report said Duhon had a strong odor of alcohol, his eyes were red and glassy and his speech was slurred. Duhon allegedly failed three field sobriety tests and a breath test revealed his blood-alcohol content to be .202 - well above the legal limit of .08 and substantially above the .15 threshold for aggravated DUI.

The penalty is two days to six months in jail and a $200-$1,000 fine. A date for his next court appearance has not been set.

Duhon is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Thundering Herd. He starred at Duke and played nine seasons in the NBA. He played with the Bulls, Knicks, Magic and Lakers, and Marshall coach Dan D'Antoni was one of his NBA coaches.
