Members of the Putnam County Board of Education voted Monday to create two new positions for the 2017-18 school year.

Board members voted to add a kindergarten teacher to the staff at Mountain View Elementary School in Hurricane.

The board also approved the creation of a lead school nurse position. The new nurse will be based at the school system's central office in Winfield and will be the "go-to for all nurses in the county," school spokeswoman Micah Osborne said in a message after the meeting.

The school system also received its official graduation numbers for the 2016-17 school year, she said.

The school system had 726 graduates, who earned a combined $11 million in scholarships, she said.

Also at the meeting, the board voted to accept a $275,000 bid from 1 Korin 3-10 Inc. to install an elevator at Poca High School.
