A Cabell County man died in a crash Tuesday on Interstate 64 near Teays Valley in Putnam County.
Rodney Kirby Jr., 31, of Milton, was driving a 2011 Ford Focus that rear-ended a tractor-trailer just before 7 a.m. near the Teays Valley interstate entrance ramp, according to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies said the tractor-trailer had just merged onto the interstate from the Teays Valley entrance ramp.
Kirby was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's Teays Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, deputies said.
Cpl. R. S. Johnson, who is investigating the crash, said he believes Kirby was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
The tractor-trailer received minor damage.
All lanes of I-64 westbound were shut down for some time after the incident.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the incident.
