WINFIELD - Members of the Putnam County Board of Education voted Monday to create a new position to oversee secondary education, grades nine through 12.
The five-member board voted unanimously to create a director of secondary education position beginning July 1.
Superintendent John Hudson said the school system currently has a director of secondary education, but the position oversees both middle and high schools in the county.
"This will mostly focus on and support the high schools," he said.
Hudson said he plans to draft and post a detailed job description later this week.
Members of the board went into an hour-long executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss personnel matters and to conduct an annual evaluation of the superintendent.
Although board members cannot comment on personnel matters discussed in a closed session, board president Craig Spicer said it had a "good meeting" with Hudson.
"We are glad we hired Mr. Hudson. We look forward to continuing to work with him in the future," he said. "He inherited a great school system, but he had a lot of people leave. We feel like he's done a good job."
Also at the meeting, members voted to appoint Chris Campbell, the school system's treasurer; Tracey Gunter, the service director of accounting; and a board member to the school system's audit committee.
The board voted to appoint board member Bruce Knell to the committee.
The next Putnam County Board of Education meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 3.
