Winfield - The Putnam County principal accused of using booster funds on personal purchases last fall has resigned.

The Putnam County School Board accepted the resignation of Bradley Knell, the principal of Poca High School, Monday night.

Knell was arrested in September after he allegedly used a debit card linked to the school basketball teams' boosters for personal purchases on at least two occasions at gas stations near the school. He was charged with two counts of computer fraud.

Knell had been on unpaid suspension since October.

Putnam County Schools Superintendent John Hudson said the resignation occurred within the last week. There will be an open search for the new principal, Hudson said

"We haven't determined when we may post for that position, but that will be forthcoming in the future," Hudson said.

Knell previously was an assistant principal at Hurricane and Buffalo high schools.

The school board also unanimously voted to suspend Heather Brown, a professional employee of the district, for 10 days without pay. Hudson declined to specify why she was being suspended.

The next school board meeting will be held Feb. 20.
