HURRICANE -- Hurricane residents were without water for most of Friday, after a significant water main break near the city's water tank on Midland Trail.

Mayor Scott Edwards, in a Facebook post around 9:30 a.m., reported that the leak had been located and the water tank was being drained so that workers could make repairs.

Edwards had estimated water in the city would be back on by around noon, but Crystal Hubbard, an administrative assistant for the city's water and sewer department, said around 10 a.m. that the water was turned back on with low pressure.

The leak, Edward said late Friday, was fully repaired around 4 p.m.

"It's all repaired, and everything is back to normal," he said, adding that affected customers were still under a boil-water advisory, possibly until Saturday morning.

Once the leak was repaired the city was switched to backup water sources to refill the main tank, Edwards said. The city has two backup sources of water.

Residents closest to the water tank on Midland Trail had their water on sooner than those further out, and water pressure was expected to improve as the tank was refilled.

Hubbard said the leak was a 12-inch break. The cause of the leak had not been determined.
