An official headcount has yet to be tallied, but Putnam County school officials are saying enrollment has increased this year, negating last year's loss of about 200 students.
During a Putnam County Board of Education meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Chuck Hatfield said the district has about 9,825 students now, even though his office doesn't have final numbers yet.
"I expect we'll break even," he said, referring to the 2013-2014 school year when the county enrolled 9,900 students.
Over the past decade, Putnam County was one of the fastest growing school districts in the state, increasing enrollment by over 1,000 students. Enrollment growth slipped last year, but Hatfield said it looks like the county is back on track.
During the meeting, Hatfield also said end-of-year-assessment results have been sent home with students, though county-level data still is not ready.
Putnam County also will begin preparing for a visit from the state Department of Education's Office of Education Performance Audits on Dec. 14. Hatfield said each school will go through a mock audit starting in October.
