Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha and Putnam counties will soon be opening a ReStore in Putnam County by the end of the year.

Amy McLaughlin, ReStore director, said the store should be open by Nov. 1 if all goes according to plan. The new ReStore will be located in the old A&L Hardware store in the MidValley Square Shopping Center at 3554 Teays Valley Road.

"Everybody in Putnam County knows where that location is, so we're really excited about it," McLaughlin said.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is accepting donations via pickup from Putnam County now, and will accept store drop-off locations starting in October.

Anyone with furniture, home goods, office furnishings, building materials who would like to donate now can call Habitat for Humanity to arrange a truck to pick up the materials.

"About 20 percent of houses we've built have been in Putnam County," McLaughlin said. "We're really trying hard to have a bigger presence and influence down here."

McLaughlin said all proceeds from the Teays Valley ReStore will benefit Putnam County.

The new ReStore will also serve as an outpost for families interested in the Habitat for Humanity program and any of the services or classes it offers.

The County Commission also approved rezoning at 88 Crooked Creek Road in Scott Depot.

Tim Keaton, county planner, said the lot would go from rural moderate to commercial. "This meets intent of U.S. 35 corridor management plan," Keaton said.

The Putnam County Planning Commission also recommended the rezoning. A public hearing was held April 19 where a few members of the public spoke out against it, Keaton said. Another public hearing was held during the County Commission meeting Tuesday morning, but no one spoke against the rezoning.

County commissioners also signed a change order to the contract on the Wave Pool liner project, which changes the completion date to Aug. 31. County Manager Brian Donat said this will allow for all of the construction to be completed by the end of summer, since the pool will not open this year.
