WINFIELD - More than 1,100 students from Putnam County Schools made art with the Huntington Museum of Art during the 2014-15 school year.
Cindy Dearborn, Huntington Museum of Art museum and schools coordinator, presented to the Putnam Board of Education as part of the museum's partnership with the school district.
Dearborn said programs offered through the museum have been beneficial to both the students and the museum.
"A lot of elementary schools in West Virginia do not have an art teacher," Dearborn said. "This is a great way for us to get in the door and introduce everyone to the museum."
Three students from Winfield Middle School had artwork featured in the portfolio exhibition at the museum, Dearborn said.
"[The exhibition is] a great way to see talent of this area," Dearborn said.
Students from Buffalo High School also took part in an art and biology day at the museum and its conservatory. The 20th anniversary of the conservatory is this year.
"We appreciate working with the museum and look forward to many years to come," said Putnam schools Superintendent Chuck Hatfield.
The board also approved a bid from Musco Sports Lighting for $159,884 for lighting at the new Buffalo football stadium.
The funding for construction of the new stadium is a cooperative effort by community members, athletic boosters, the school board and businesses, said board member William Legg.
The new stadium will have seating to accommodate 2,500 people, a concession stand for both home and visitor sides, a new press box, state-of-the-art LED lighting, new locker rooms, a new weight room and an eight-lane track surrounding the field.
The new stadium is expected to be finished by the end of 2018, school officials said previously.
Putnam Board of Education will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. on May 16 at the board office in Winfield.
