Putnam grand jury indicts 35

A Putnam County grand jury returned indictments against 35 people on Wednesday, Prosecuting Attorney Mark Sorsaia announced.

The indictments Sorsaia announced are not a finding of fact; it means only that grand jurors have decided that enough evidence exists to warrant a criminal trial. Indictments are as follows:

Kenneth R. Carter, of Princeton, Ind., sexual assault in the second degree, sexual abuse by a parent, guardian custodian or other person in a position of trust and incest;

Russell H. Childers, of Nitro, operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, conspiracy to commit operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine and attempt to manufacture a controlled substance;

Jamie K. Collins, of Hurricane, child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury;

Julianna R. Elswick, of Hurricane, nighttime burglary, conspiracy to commit nighttime burglary, grand larceny and petite larceny;

Jeremy S. Halstead, of Hurricane, grand larceny;

Troy L. Handley, of Barboursville, embezzlement;

Eric S. Harrison, of Dunbar, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance;

Terrick N. Harvey, of Hurricane, delivery of a controlled substance (2) and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance;

Amber L. Hawkins, of Winfield, operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, conspiracy to commit operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine and attempt to manufacture a controlled substance;

Jeremy L. Hysell, of Ona, fraudulent scheme, financial exploitation of an elderly person;

Brittany N. Johnson, of Hurricane, child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (2) and conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance;

Howard L. Justice Jr., of Poca, shoplifting and failure to provide notice of a registration change;

Mitchell R. Kiman, of Hurricane, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance;

Steven E. Lawson, of Matewan, sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or other person in a position of trust, incest, sexual assault in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree and sexual assault in the third degree;

Cristina L. Leach, of Hurricane, conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance;

Steven J. Little, of Nitro, malicious assault, domestic battery and attempted first-degree murder;

Richard A. Loftis Jr., of St. Albans, attempt to commit grand larceny and destruction of property;

Charles W. McClanahan, of St. Albans, operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, conspiracy to commit operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit possession of substances to be used as precursors to manufacture methamphetamine a controlled substance;

Darren M. Metten, of Nitro, attempting to disarm a law-enforcement officer, battery of a police officer and unlawful taking of a vehicle;

Dakota R. Miles, of St. Albans, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription and operating a passenger vehicle without a safety belt;

Jeffery L. Patterson, of Hurricane, sexual abuse in the first degree and displaying sex organs by a parent, guardian or custodian;

Joshua R. Perkins, of Hurricane, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury;

Douglas K. Pickering, of Hometown, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance;

Joshua M. Pickering, of Hometown, nighttime burglary, petit larceny, breaking and entering, grand larceny and destruction of property;

Diane S. Redman, of Leon, fleeing in a vehicle from a law-enforcement officer while under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol;

Anthony R. Schmidt, of Hurricane, nighttime burglary and petit larceny;

Travis T. Shull, of Culloden, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (3);

Chad E. Smith, of Charleston, driving on a revoked license-DUI related, third offense, and fleeing in a vehicle from a law-enforcement officer in reckless indifference to the safety of others;

Jessica M. Sowards, of Hurricane, fraudulent use of an unauthorized access device (2);

Caleb J. Thacker, of Hurricane, driving under the influence of alcohol, third offense, and driving on a revoked license-DUI related;

Terrence L. Thomas, of Culloden, welfare fraud;

Caila D. Vance, of Fraziers Bottom, delivery of a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance;

Timothy A. Ward, of St. Albans, fraudulent use of an unauthorized access device (2);

James E. Walker, of Charleston, fleeing in a vehicle from a law-enforcement officer in reckless indifference to the safety of others, driving without the required security and operating a motorcycle without an endorsement on driver's license;

Jordan A. Williams, of Poca, uttering a forged writing.
